Celestial Child Guru Bhakt Upamanyu

One of the disciples of Guru Ayoddhaumya was Upamanyu. He was a great devotee. On the orders of the Guru, he used to go to graze the cow every day. One day the guru asked him that you looked thicker and stronger than the other disciples. what do you eat? Then Upamanyu told that I accept it by asking for alms. The Guru told him that without requesting me, you should not eat the food of alms. Upamanyu obeyed Guruji.

After a few days, Guruji again asked the same question to Upamanyu, and he told that he satisfies his hunger by drinking cow's milk. Then the Guru forbade him to do the same, but even after this, Guruji again asked the same question to Upamanyu on his appearance as before. Then Upamanyu told that the froth that calves give out after drinking cow's milk, he consumes it. Guru Ayoddhaumya also forbade him to do so.

When all the avenues of food and drink were closed in front of Upamanyu, then one day he ate the leaves of Aakada after getting distraught with hunger. Those leaves were poisonous. Eating them, Upamanyu became blind and started wandering in the forest. Unable to see, Upamanyu fell into a well. When Upamanyu did not return to the ashram till evening, the Guru along with his other disciples reached the forest to find him. Going into the forest, the Guru called him, then Upamanyu told that he had fallen into the well.

When the Guru asked the reason for this, he told the whole thing truthfully. Then Guru Ayoddhaumya asked Upamanyu to praise Ashwini Kumar, the physician of the gods. Upamanyu did the same. Pleased with the praise, Ashwini Kumar appeared and gave a fruit to Upamanyu and said that by eating it, you will become as healthy as before. Upamanyu said that I cannot eat this fruit without requesting my Guru.

Pleased with the devotion of Upamanyu, Ashwin Kumar again granted him a boon to be as healthy as before, due to which his eyesight also returned again. With the blessings of the Guru, he got the knowledge of all the Vedas and Dharmashastras.
