Why the new year starts with Chaitra Pratipada?

The beginning of the Indian New Year is considered to be from Chaitra Shukla Pratipada and from this day the beginning of planets, wars, months and Samvatsaras are considered according to mathematical and astronomical calculations. Even today, this scriptural time-calculation associated with the public has stood the test of practicality. It is considered a symbol of national proud tradition. Vikrami Samvat is not a narrow ideology or cult. We see it as secular. This Samvatsara is not based on the birth of any goddess, deity or great man, does not belong to any particular caste or sect like AD or Hijri Sun. Our glorious tradition is based on the astronomical principles of nature in the purest sense and the basis of Indian calendar is completely secular. This auspicious day of Pratipada is a symbol of the glorious tradition of the nation of India. According to the Brahma Purana, on the first day of Chaitra month, Brahma started the creation of the universe. This is the belief of Indians, that is why we consider the beginning of the new year from Chaitra Shukla Pratipada.

Even today in our country, we see Chaitra Shukla Pratipada in the form of March, April in the conduct of nature, education and state funds etc. This time is the junction of two seasons. In this the nights become shorter and the days become longer. Nature takes on a new form. It seems that nature is energized for the new structure by wearing the new Pallavas. Human, animal and bird, even the material-conscious nature becomes conscious, giving up idyllic and laziness. This is also the basis of spring festival. This is when the ice starts melting. Mangoes are starting to bloom. Nature's greenery becomes a symbol of new life and gets attached to our life.

On this day of Pratipada, 2054 years ago from today, King of Ujjayini, King Vikramaditya protected the land of India from foreign invaders and started counting the time from this day. The benevolent nation also called by the name of the same Maharaj as Vikrami Samvat. Maharaj Vikramaditya organized the nation 2054 years ago by eradicating the power of the Shakas and banished them from the country and got victory in his native place Arabia. Along with this, he hoisted his victory flag over Yavana, Huna, Tushar, Parsik and Kamboja countries. As a memory of him, this Pratipada was celebrated as Samvatsar and this sequence continued till the time of Prithviraj Chauhan. Maharaja Vikramaditya created not only India, but the whole world. On the basis of the most ancient calculations, the day of Pratipada was anointed as Vikrami Samvat. On this day Maryada Purushottam was celebrated as the coronation or ascension of Lord Ramachandra. This day is really going to bring victory of truth over falsehood. On this day Maharaja Yudhishthira was also coronated and Maharaja Vikramaditya also celebrated it as a celebration of victory over the doubts.

Even today, this day has gained recognition by making Tithi as the pivot of the rituals of our social and religious works. It is a day to protect national self-respect and cultural heritage. Starting from Pratipada we store energy for six months in nine days, then in the Navratri of Ashwin month we store energy for the remaining six months.
